They are NOT a small truck. If you want a small trick get a S-10 or a Ranger. They are mid size truck even in Dodge advertising. Personally I have two 1st gen Dakota's which I perfer for mechanical reasons.

I have a 99 F-150 and an 05 F-150. They do have their little quirks, but they are pretty reliable and have good engines & Transmissions if people would only change the fluid every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. If you take care of them and keep the transmission fluid changed on the automatics. My 99 is a straight drive 5 speed and the 05 is an automatic. Both have the 4.2 L V6 and have plenty of power for pulling things. The 2005 with its 4.2 can pull 5000 lbs. The 99, not quite as much because it is a straight drive. I like the 99 because it has an 8 foot bed and I do like the 2005 as well because even with the regular cab you still have four doors. Even though the 2005 is 19 years old, it has an excellent paint job, was repainted before I got it and it is still has a very modern look to it, inside and out. It is very clean inside and out and looks newer than 19 years old. Whoever had it before we took great care of it. Only paid 4 grand. I would’ve just as easily taken a Chevrolet with the 4.3 L V6 in a full-size truck because like you said they have plenty of space and are easy to work on. Also, I think most would agreed at Chevrolet tend to ride a bit better. However, has a good suspension system and that’s why they do ride rough. If we all had our same, most of Us Would drive Toyota Tundras but God knows they are way out of my budget range and anyone who else who watches these, videos most of them too.

I have to jump on the bandwagon...I have a 2001 dodge dakota with the 4.7 V8...it has 252,000 miles on it still a good running truck...never had an engine swap...

my 06 has 230k miles on it and the engine is in perfect shape, just make sure you keep up on oil levels between changes as your car ages and you're in good shape

running a grand cherokee with 276,000 miles original engine. taking care of it does wonders. it runs good and strong . tow tons of stuff with it no issues tons of offroading no issues.

I did have a question. Was the ford in the video the 4.6 v8? I know the 5.4’s have a bit more power (not much) but those would probably be better to tow and haul. Idk what motor was in the dodge

I just got a 2000 ls with a 2.2 l and I'm thinking about upgrading the motor and use as delivery/ work truck. In process of restoring it now, its my 4 th s 10, i adore them. Extra cab means monster stereo too.

‘03 Dakota with 4.7 and 220k miles. Always used synth oil and changed every 4K miles. Still goin’ and it’s my daily driver :)

Thank you very much for your information. We are thinking of picking up one of these that the original owner thought was a 2010 but it’s a 2009- for a family member. I’ve been worried about the Nissan transmission. 😬 it is high mileage & very well maintained. how do I know if it has the torque converter. Would that have been after market or from the factory. The seller has all repair history.

You are so right about the Ford motor. It's reliable, solid and the build quality of this era is better than now with less tech, computers, etc , interior materials and electronics are very good. My 99 Expedition has 210,000 miles and everything still works. Doesn't leak oil but does burn some. But, as you said, they are a mutha to work on! The air filter sucks and the spark plugs ( back 2) are a nightmare! I do most of my own services but when my mechanic works on it he uses the C word frequently! I'm looking at a 98 F150 with the 4.2 V6 now because it has the long bed. Great for dump runs, full sheets of plywood/ drywall, kayaks and bikes, cheap to buy and 22 mpg. What's not to like?

Just scored a relatively clean for a northern truck 97' GMC K1500. Coming from a 99' 10th gen F150 the OBS Sierra just blows it away. It has more power, nicer ride and is A LOT easier to DIY maintain myself than the Ford. GMT400's are AWESOME trucks. This is coming from someone who was a Ford tech btw.

I cannot agree more on the teenagers fucking these things up I just got one that had a cutout in the bed for a stack and it has some meaty tires on it and it was fully painted with rhino line super sad but I took the paint off and the stack off and I’m trying to save it right now! I’m 18 and not even I would spray paint the interior red 😢
